Integrated Credit Checks

Credit checks via TransUnion are now integrated directly within the platform on a pay as you go basis for £2+VAT per check.

Getting started

Prior to running your first credit check a Manager must review and agree to the Terms of Use by submitting the online agreement under Admin > Settings > Pay As You Go Balances > TransUnion Credit Checks.

Key points to be aware of include:

  • You must let prospective tenants know a credit check will be carried out on them, and give them a link to TransUnion's privacy notice before you run the check.
  • You can only use the results to help assess whether someone is suitable to rent your property — not for any other purpose - and you should not rely on the results as the sole basis for a decision.
  • You must keep the results confidential and secure, and cannot share them with any other party, including both the tenant and landlord.
  • You must be registered with the ICO for data protection purposes.

The full terms are always available to view under Admin > Settings > Pay As You Go Balances > TransUnion Credit Checks - Terms of Use: View.

Topping up your pay as you go balance

Once that has been done you can purchase credits via Admin > Settings > Pay As you Go Balances.  Select the number of credits you would like and confirm. An invoice will be raised and charged via your normal billing method.

Running A Credit Check

Once the initial setup is complete you can run a credit check directly from the Tenant dashboard page or from the New Registrations Alert.

The applicant must first have consented to the credit check and you will not be able to run the check until they have done so.  This can be done via one of our lead qualification or tenant application forms or by the built in consent form, a link to which can be emailed directly from the system.  The consent is automatically audited.  If consent has been gathered by other means, the consent can also be set manually by editing the Tenant record under the Marketing Consent section.

Prior to consent being given, the tenant dashboard will show:

Clicking this will pop up an email template you can send to the applicant with a link to an online form requesting they consent to the credit check to progress their application.  When consent has been given, the dashboard link will change to:

Clicking the button will pop up a modal form to review the details.  Submitting the form will result in the credit check being run.  If a credit file is found, the result is returned immediately, including a credit score and summary rating plus a credit report directly from TransUnion.  The dashboard display will then change to display the result.

Advanced Options

The service can be configured to run automatically whenever an applicant fills in either a pre qualification form or an application form.  The system can also be configured to automatically fail an applicant based on the score being below a particular threshold.  Speak to support to discuss either of these options in more detail.
